The Company is engaged in developing medicines based on molecules that modulate the activity of the melanocortin and natriuretic peptide receptor systems. The Company’s product candidates are targeted, receptor-specific therapeutics for the treatment of diseases with unmet medical need and commercial potential. The melanocortin receptor (MCr) system is hormone driven, with effects on food intake, metabolism, sexual function, inflammation and immune system responses. There are five melanocortin receptors, MC1r through MC5r. The natriuretic peptide receptor (NPR) system regulates cardiovascular functions, and therapeutic agents modulating this system have potential to treat fibrotic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, including reducing cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis, heart failure, acute asthma, pulmonary diseases and hypertension.
