Thursday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Industrial

The worst performing sector as of midday Thursday is the Utilities sector, showing a 1.0% loss. Within that group, Vistra Corp (Symbol: VST) and NRG Energy Inc (Symbol: NRG) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 8.6% and 5.0%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLU), which is down 0.9% on the day, and up 12.65% year-to-date. Vistra Corp, meanwhile, is up 118.96% year-to-date, and NRG Energy Inc is up 51.41% year-to-date. Combined, VST and NRG make up approximately 4.7% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Industrial sector, showing a 0.7% loss. Among large Industrial stocks, Eaton Corp plc (Symbol: ETN) and Hubbell Inc. (Symbol: HUBB) are the most notable, showing a loss of 4.4% and 3.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Industrial stocks is the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI), which is down 0.7% in midday trading, and up 7.38% on a year-to-date basis. Eaton Corp plc, meanwhile, is up 30.40% year-to-date, and Hubbell Inc. is up 12.30% year-to-date. Combined, ETN and HUBB make up approximately 4.0% of the underlying holdings of XLI.
