Friday Sector Laggards: Industrial, Materials

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Friday, shares of Industrial companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 1.4% loss. Within the sector, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (Symbol: NCLH) and Parker Hannifin Corp (Symbol: PH) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 7.8% and 5.7%, respectively. Among industrial ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLI), which is down 1.4% on the day, and up 6.20% year-to-date. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, meanwhile, is down 17.64% year-to-date, and Parker Hannifin Corp is up 8.94% year-to-date. PH makes up approximately 1.7% of the underlying holdings of XLI.

The next worst performing sector is the Materials sector, showing a 1.3% loss. Among large Materials stocks, Howmet Aerospace Inc (Symbol: HWM) and Albemarle Corp. (Symbol: ALB) are the most notable, showing a loss of 5.8% and 3.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB), which is down 1.0% in midday trading, and up 4.28% on a year-to-date basis. Howmet Aerospace Inc, meanwhile, is up 44.27% year-to-date, and Albemarle Corp., is down 27.96% year-to-date. ALB makes up approximately 1.2% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
