Friday Sector Leaders: Financial, Technology & Communications

In afternoon trading on Friday, Financial stocks are the best performing sector, higher by 0.5%. Within that group, Synchrony Financial (Symbol: SYF) and Discover Financial Services (Symbol: DFS) are two of the day's stand-outs, showing a gain of 5.3% and 4.1%, respectively. Among financial ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLF), which is up 0.4% on the day, and up 10.26% year-to-date. Synchrony Financial, meanwhile, is up 23.23% year-to-date, and Discover Financial Services is up 15.83% year-to-date. Combined, SYF and DFS make up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of XLF.

The next best performing sector is the Technology & Communications sector, up 0.4%. Among large Technology & Communications stocks, Uber Technologies Inc (Symbol: UBER) and Qorvo Inc (Symbol: QRVO) are the most notable, showing a gain of 3.1% and 2.8%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Technology & Communications stocks is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK), which is up 0.6% in midday trading, and up 18.68% on a year-to-date basis. Uber Technologies Inc, meanwhile, is up 17.78% year-to-date, and Qorvo Inc is up 2.56% year-to-date. QRVO makes up approximately 0.1% of the underlying holdings of XLK.
